Desperado drink
The Desperado drink is the world’s first tequila-flavoured beer. It’s the combination of full-bodied lager with a boost of tequila flavour that has been shaking up the traditional beer market since day one. Tequila flavour is a light and refreshing taste profile, balanced with spicy and lemony notes that add sweetness.
The Desperados have a delightful citrus taste, a bit tangy, tasting of lemon, lime, and I guess Tequila. There is also an interesting, deep sour aftertaste.
Desperado drink offers something different from some stale, bland lagers and is less bitter and so more appealing to softer palettes. Either way, it’s always cool to try something different, and a tequila-flavored lager isn’t the worst idea in the world.
Desperado drink origin
Desperado drink was first created in Alsace, France, by Michel Debus, one of the most famous French brewers of the 20th century.
The Fischer Brewery, founded in 1821 in Strasbourg, first produced Desperados. With the recent success of the beer, production has now moved to the Netherlands, not surprisingly, as Heineken took over the brewery in 1996. Does this make it any less exotic or “cool”? Hardly; it’s only a lager, after all, with a bit of tequila thrown in.
This beer can be seen as an alternative to spirits and shots on a night out and is specially targeted at the young ones who like to get wasted quickly. Desperados drink is now managed by the Desperados.
A disruptive product, the Desperado drink began to cross borders and quickly became a success in Germany and, from there, spread throughout Europe. Today, it is an iconic beer for young Nigerians, thanks to the unique and daring character of the drink.
Tequila is similar to champagne in that it is a protected product that can only be referred to as tequila if it is indeed made in certain regions in Mexico. The Heineken company, its producer, buys tequila flavouring from Mexico.
